Has Hilary Clinton Been Banished?

It is an age old custom in the world of power structures, that when two people are vying for the same “top of the heap” job, one is going to win and get some form of revenge over their former rival.  Back when Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama were both senators who were running for the Democratic presidential nomination, they debated one another vigorously.  Obviously, Hilary Clinton can be very outspoken at times, and it is extremely hard to compete with Barack’s poise and charm.  But then, after Obama won the Presidency, he did another thing that is rather common in the history of people who ascend to positions of ultimate authority- he sent Hilary Clinton out of the country as a diplomatic envoy.  It is unclear as to whether that was a punishment or a reward.

On the one hand, Hilary Clinton is a very opinionated individual, and she does like to speak to people about the issues that are important to her.  And when she reaches out to the leaders (and the ordinary people) of other nations, Hilary could not be any more in line with her element.  When she reaches out on her pet topics like education especially, she speaks with a sort of goading “mother knows best” charisma that most people will either love or hate.  It is possible that Obama hates it.

After all, he has essentially sent her out of the country to work for the United States government.  This must make it more difficult for her to keep up some of her political ties back home.  And since she is no longer in the senate since her appointment, she is no longer a powerful force at home.  Whereas she used to be among the top one percent of people in this elite group of national leaders, now she is as much a salesperson for the American agenda abroad as she is a leader within the United States itself.
