The hype and enthusiasm surrounding role of woman in politics and government may, at first glance, seem misplaced. The total number of woman in the world may not be the same as men but there is no denying that women constitute the only other category of human beings on this planet other than men.
In such a scenario, what is a big deal about the fact that one section of humanity has taken interest in its own governance and administration? Well, such a question clearly ignores the historical discrimination that women have faced from men. The fact that women were considered physically weaker as compared to men is the primary reason why they have been forced to follow a minor role in politics and government.
Well, the role of physical strength was important prior to the invention of agriculture. Once we learned to grow food from a single spot, the supposed difference between men and women nearly became academic. Farming requires a lot of strength but who says that men did farming all by themselves? They made use of different domesticated animals ranging from sheep and goats to bull and oxen for tilling and farming the land.
There have been numerous instances where women have stepped up when men were incapable. This is probably the reason why instances of women in government and administration are being celebrated. It is considered as proof that we are finally shaking off our weird view about woman and are recognizing their abilities all over again. However, it is pertinent to note that no organized force will ever render itself irrelevant by its own free will. Women will have to wait for a long time if they wish to gain political supremacy with the permission of men. Power, once enjoyed, will never be given away. Women should be prepared to fight for their status in society, the government included. They cannot afford to relax even once because they have always been treated as the weaker side in this game.
